Blog 9 - Plant ID and Group Check-in

 

Scientific name: Costus spiralis

Common name: Strawberry bud, Insulin Plant

This plant is native to Brazil and southern North America and is in the family Costaceae. It is used in Brazilian medicinal teas to treat infections, cough, inflammation, arthritis, etc. It is characterized and distinguished from its relatives by its spiraling stems. It is also used a lot in Brazil for the treatment of diabetes. 

Our group met Wednesday 3/23/2022 from 6:30-7:00.

We all got pictures of small insects like moths and ladybugs. The bread baking was pretty fun for all of us.  Only one of us has baked bread before, but we all had our bread turn out pretty good. We all also enjoyed taking a walk. The weather was nice, and some of us even walked with other people too. We are all seeing at least a little progress from our plants. Two of us are seeing slow progress, but they seem like they're growing!
